Idle networks and thus yawningly slow memory accesses cost not only nerves but also valuable working time. A simple search in the ERP system then takes what feels like an eternity and the daily backup unnecessarily disrupts the usual workflow in the departments.
For the traditional building materials specialist Gert Grüppen, who managed his stores centrally at the Emlichheim location, the condition of his system was no longer acceptable. The IT users thus drew up a catalogue of requirements that was intended to prevent the imminent data infarction.

The construction materials dealer Geert Grüppen, who was so badly affected, received expert support from bdT bleumer Datentechnik and Starline. The Starline specialists, in turn, finally developed a suitable solution for the new system based on the requirements list.
A primary storage solution for a fully virtualized VMware ESXi-6 environment as an HA cluster of three ESXi hosts proved to be ideal. Therefore, the technicians recommended a hardware upgrade with:
- Two NASdeluxe iSCSI systems with JovianDSS from Open-E
- 2x NASdeluxe JBODs as shared storage
- 2x 10 Gbps Ethernet switches from Netgear
The NASdeluxe JovianDSS storage system is therefore ideally suited for such requirements. The bottom line is that it offers high performance and capacity combined with high flexibility.
Thanks to ZFS, the system can also be designed to be future-proof. Thus, it will continue to meet the ever-increasing demands of a growing IT landscape for a long time to come.
The installation, however, proceeded very quickly, as adjustments to the system configuration could be made in advance by the Starline technicians.
Thanks to the experienced planning in the run-up to the project, hardly any unnecessary time was lost: From the day of the order, through the implementation, to the use in the productive environment - with replacement of the old system - a total of just three weeks passed. As a result: The branches can now once again work briskly over a high-performance infrastructure.
