GIGABYTE's ARM server series is based on SoC solutions from Cavium. Because of the configuration possibilities of the Cavium processors, GIGABYTE has designed ultra-high performance dual-socket rackmounts. The result was storage, network and expansion platforms that have never before been found on standard formats.

These products are designed to deliver superior performance in professional media servers, large data analysis, network virtualization and many other applications. As multi-node platforms with high packing density, they have been optimized for energy efficiency and computing performance and are suitable for both private and public data centers.

The core - the Cavium ThunderX CPU - consists of a server-on-a-chip (SoC) with up to 48 ARMv8 cores. In addition to the large number of high performance cores, this SoC offers high memory bandwidth, large storage capacity, integrated hardware accelerators, fully virtualized cores, scalable Ethernet fabrics and many interfaces.

Its compact design also enables the systems to be mounted on a standard micro ATX motherboard - including DDR4 memory technology. This means that the smallest models even fit into a 1 U enclosure. 

With all these processor features, supported by the most important operating systems and development environments of the server industry, the Cavium solution is equipped for the most demanding applications in data centers.

To ensure that the data input to the 48 cores of each ThunderX processor is not bothered by network restrictions, these systems are equipped with 40 GbE QSFP+ fiber optic ports. These ports offer high bandwidth, low power consumption and latency of less than one nanosecond. This enables them to handle even the most complex data center applications.
