Toshiba launches 22TB HDD with MAMR technology
Flux Control Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording for Datacenters
Thanks to the SAS or SATA interface, rotation speed of 7,200 rpm, a cache of 512MiB and native command queuing, the MG10 models achieve a high level of performance. The ideal mix of reliability, capacity and speed.
The hard disks are designed for 24/7 operation with a workload of 550 TB per year. This makes the MG10 series suitable for enterprise-class storage arrays as well as industrial server and storage systems.
With its capacity and state-of-the-art technology, it meets the special requirements of data centers with high storage needs. It also ensures reliable operation because vibration effects are minimized thanks to its advanced control and sensor technology. Multiple sensors detect even the slightest shocks and rotational vibrations are effectively damped.
Last but not least, the persistent write cache ensures that data remains safe even if the power supply is interrupted when writing to the hard disk.
Why use HDDs at all when SSDs are so much faster?
HDDs still have obvious advantages:
- Cost:
HDDs are generally less expensive per terabyte than SSDs. - Data recovery:
In the event of data loss, there is also usually still hope with HDDs. The data can often still be read out with special tools. - Technology:
HDDs are still considered a reliable technology.
