Case study: KATEK Group Memmingen relies on total solution from Starline

As a rapidly growing traditional company from the solar and electronics industry, which already has branches in nine countries, KATEK Memmingen needed a system refresh for its Saedinenie location in Bulgaria. For Starline, this was day-to-day and challenging project business in a row

The required solution for the KATEK Group Memmingen had to be high-performance, consist of standard industrial components and include both a fast and permanent backup procedure. After all, the aim was to make the transition to a low-latency, broadband and thus internationally usable productive solution with a cloud connection in the next ten years.

Christian Menhofer, Head of IT & Process and Change Management at the KATEK Group in Memmingen, had therefore already consulted several of Starline's competitors. However, they only offered proprietary solutions or confronted him with extremely lengthy delivery terms.

In the spring of 2022, he then approached Starline and thus Bernd Widmaier, the sales manager. In several meetings, the Enterprise Storage Solutions team then developed a suitable concept that was tailored exactly to the needs of the KATEK Group Memmingen.

The order included two x86 VMware servers with one terabyte of RAM each, a DataCore cluster, a backup server and a tape library. As another important component, Starline was to provide the necessary know-how to assemble the system and also provide the service to keep it running.

In fact, assembling the servers was routine for Starline production. The migration at the customer's site was just as quick, so that the powerful overall solution has already gone into regular operation in the meantime and all the original requirements have been fulfilled in an exemplary manner.

In the future, Starline will also take over the services for the KATEK location in Bulgaria. This means that regular health checks, maintenance and the installation of system-relevant updates are part of the scope of duties. In addition, Starline partners provide support in case of emergency. This means that a technician will be on site the next working day if something should actually go wrong at the production facility some 3000 kilometres away.
