Up to 512 Gbps fast: New NVMe JBOF from Netstor

Partner Netstor doubles the throughput of the fast 2U JBOF NS388P after product maintenance via PCIe 4.0 and NVMe.

Our long-standing partner Netstor has once again developed a fast storage enclosure. Netstor engineers have developed the All-Flash 2U NVMe JBOF NS388P specifically for high-performance data centers. They have therefore also integrated new PCIe 4.0 technology into the necessary interface card. This ensures that important specifications such as latency times, workload capacity and throughput are significantly improved.

The all-new PCIe Gen4 NS388P storage holds up to 24 lightning-fast PCIe 4.0 U.2 NVMe SSD drives. The NS388P-D2 model (2×2 backplane) is designed to be fitted with dual-port (2×2) U.2 SSDs, while the NS388P-S4 model (1×4 backplane) can be fitted with single-port (1×4) U.2 SSDs.

This makes the all-flash storage ideal for supporting extremely high-performance and high-availability storage applications with ultra-fast all-flash solutions. In combination with its PCIe 4.0 ×16 NP980A-G4 host card - with up to 512 Gbps - the JBOF enclosure is able to offer sustained high bandwidth performance.

In addition, the benefit of all modern PCIe Gen4 U.2 NVMe SSD drives available is lower latency and the ability to enable ultra-low latency operations in all types of data centers.

In addition, the Netstor JBOF is based on Microsemi's low-power and highly integrated PCIe 4.0 switch. This optimized NVMe storage switch is designed to manage data more efficiently than any other solution on the market.

Sophisticated functions

In addition, by selecting different modes via the CLI interface of the NS388P, you can decide for yourself at any time how many slots of SSD storage capacity each server in the JBOF enclosure should receive. In practice, up to six servers can be connected to the same NS388P within a rack cabinet. Each server is assigned a dedicated storage zone in the enclosure.

In combination with U.2 NVMe SSDs (and corresponding 2×2 connections), the 2×2 backplane model NS388P-D2 mutates into a lightning-fast all-flash storage system that also has a data failover function. In addition, the redundant power supply units of the NS388P enable greater reliability and therefore a real zero system downtime.
