Mellanox MFA7A20 presents as a VCSEL-based (Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser), low-cost, active and optical splitter cable that can split the data stream from 100 GbE to up to 2x 50 GbE. It is compliant with SFF-8665 on both QSFP28 ends. The series connects QSFP28 system units with two QSFP28 ports on the other end, such as from a switch and to two servers. Each QSFP port of the MMF (Multi Mode Fiber) has an EEPROM built in with product and status information that can be read by the host system.
