Mellanox MFA7A50 presents as a VCSEL-based (Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser), low-cost, active and optical splitter cable that can split the data stream from 100 GbE to up to 4x 25 GbE. It is compliant with SFF-8402 for the SFP28 ends and with SFF-8665 for the QSFP28 ends. The series connects QSFP28 system units with up to four SFP28 ports on the other side, such as from a switch and to four servers. Each QSFP and SFP port of the MMF (Multi Mode Fiber) has a built-in EEPROM with product and status information that can be read by the host system.
