NVMe Data Express from Western Digital

Western Digital Ultrastar DC SN655 for enterprise and cloud applications

Western Digital has introduced a new SSD from the Ultrastar series. The DC SN655 model offers a number of improvements over the previous generation, including higher performance, better reliability and lower power consumption.

Western Digital's new Ultrastar DC SN655 SSD is designed to meet the demands of modern data centers and mission-critical applications. With its state-of-the-art NVMe™ technology, the SSD delivers impressive sequential read and write speeds to handle even the most demanding workloads. This makes the UltraStar SN655 the ideal solution for big data applications, scale-out installations, software-defined solutions, databases (NoSQL or distributed), AI/ML deep learning and cloud environments.

Features

  • Support for power loss protection
  • End-to-end data path protection
  • Variable sector sizes
  • NVMe-MI™ 1.1b
  • 5 year warranty

The new Ultrastar DC SN655 NVMe SSDs have a next-generation Western Digital NVMe 1.4b controller built in, which works with PCIe Generation 4.0 interface and Western Digital BiCS5 TLC 3D NAND. Finally, NVMe hosts enable low-latency access to directly connected NVMe SSDs or to NVMe-oF™ storage arrays. BiCS5 TLC 3D NAND represents the next generation of 3D NAND with a higher bit density per square millimeter.

Reliability at the highest level

Equipped with the latest PCIe generation 4.0, the Ultrastar SSD DC SN655 enables scalable performance for ever-increasing application workloads. With power failure protection, an MTBF of 2.5 million (projected) and an endurance of 1.0 DWPD, administrators can run and scale their data center with confidence. It is also designed for SFF (2.5-inch) SSD storage infrastructure and therefore offers support for U.2 and U.3 backplanes.

Efficiency and sustainability

The Datacenter SSD not only offers top performance, but is also unsurpassed in terms of reliability. With its improved durability and extended lifecycle, the series enables consistent and reliable performance even under extreme loads. Western Digital's proven technology also ensures consistently high data integrity and availability, making the UltraStar DC SN655 the optimal choice for mission-critical applications.
