Proxmox Virtual Environment Update 9.1

News from Proxmox. The latest update offers numerous enhancements.

Here is a brief overview of the highlights

OCI IMAGES FOR CREATING LXC CONTAINERS

Proxmox VE 9.1 integrates support for OCI images. Users can now download OCI images directly from registries or upload them manually to use them as templates for creating LXC containers. Depending on the image, these containers are provisioned as system or application containers. Application containers offer an optimized approach that ensures minimal resource consumption and more efficient utilization, ideal for microservices. The new functionality enables standardized applications to be deployed quickly and intuitively.

SUPPORT FOR TPM IN QCOW2 FORMAT

The new version allows the state of a virtual Trusted Platform Module (vTPM) to be stored in qcow2 format. This allows complete VM snapshots to be created across different storage types, even with vTPM active. LVM storage with snapshots as “volume chains” supports the creation of offline snapshots of VMs with vTPM status. This enhancement increases operational agility for security-sensitive workloads.

GRANULAR CONTROL FOR NESTED VIRTUALIZATION

Proxmox VE now offers improved control for nested virtualization in VMs. This feature is particularly useful for workloads such as nested hypervisors (nested virtualization) or Windows environments with virtualization-based security (VBS). A new vCPU flag makes it easy to enable nested virtualization for VM guests in a targeted manner. This flexible option gives IT administrators more control.

EXTENDED STATUS REPORTING FOR SDN

Version 9.1 offers detailed monitoring and reporting for the SDN stack in the web interface. The GUI displays all guests connected to local bridges or VNets and reports on learned IP and MAC addresses. Fabrics clearly display network parameters in the resource tree. The updated management interface provides insight into central network components.

This improved visualization simplifies troubleshooting and monitoring of complex network topologies, eliminating the need to resort to the command line.
