SATA SSDs from SSSTC Now Available

With SSSTC, Starline has added another well-known SSD manufacturer to its portfolio. The SATA SSDs from this Kioxia subsidiary are particularly attractive in terms of price right now – the standout model is a 15.36 TB capacity drive from the ER4 series.

The name says it all: Solid State Storage Technology Corporation

Solid State Storage Technology Corporation (SSSTC) was formed from Lite-On's SSD division, which was acquired in 2020—since then, SSSTC has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Kioxia, though it operates under its own name and focuses on enterprise, industrial, and business client SSDs.

Broad portfolio, focus on SATA

SSSTC offers NVMe and SATA SSDs manufactured with Kioxia’s BiCS-FLASH 3D NAND, including industrial variants designed for harsh environments. At Starline, the SATA SSDs in particular are currently attractively priced. The ER4 Enterprise Series comes in the classic 2.5-inch form factor with a SATA 6 Gbit/s interface and hot-swap support—allowing existing HDD slots to be retrofitted without any infrastructure changes.

Features include end-to-end data protection, power-loss protection, Secure Erase, and AES-256 encryption with optional TCG support. According to the manufacturer, the drives have an MTBF of 3 million hours, an UBER (Uncorrectable Bit Error Rate) of 10⁻¹⁷, and a five-year warranty.

Highlight: 15.36 TB SATA SSD

The series’ flagship model offers 15.36 TB of capacity – one of the largest SATA SSDs available on the market. Despite its SATA interface, the drive delivers 98,000 IOPS read and 30,000 IOPS write, according to the manufacturer – solid performance for OLTP workloads, virtualization hosts, and high-density backup targets. The transfer rates are also impressive: they reach sequential transfer rates of up to 550 MB/s for reads and 530 MB/s for writes.

For 24/7 operation in data centers, SSSTC specifies an MTBF of 3 million hours and a design rating of 1 DWPD over five years. SSSTC lists typical use cases as OLTP databases, virtualization, cloud platforms, AI inference, big data analytics, NAS systems, backup storage, and video surveillance.

For customers looking to consolidate HDD storage or maximize capacity per slot, this drive is an obvious choice – especially since SATA models like this one are still relatively affordable, while NVMe capacities have recently become noticeably more expensive.
