Areca DEXT Driver

Areca is now offering three new drivers for macOS; two of them are new so-called DEXT drivers (DriverKit Extension Drivers)

The ArcNVMeUserspaceDriver-Dext and the ArcMSRUserSpaceDriver-Dext

In addition, there is the ArcNVMe-KEXT driver (Kernel Extension), which is designed for older Intel Macs.

These drivers will replace the old ArcMSRu 1.4.9 Big Sur driver in the future.

On this download page, you’ll find the latest drivers for your device: https://www.areca.com.tw/support/downloads.html

macOS System Requirements:

All drivers require at least macOS Sequoia 15.3 – that is, macOS Sequoia (15.0) with the necessary updates up to 15.3.

-> The reason is that Apple introduced and implemented Thunderbolt 5 in macOS with the Sequoia 15.3 update.

The new driver is primarily designed for newer Macs with Silicon processors, but it can also be installed on Intel Macs as long as macOS Sequoia 15.3 is installed.

A major advantage is that “cumbersome” driver activation via the Mac’s pre-boot settings is no longer necessary.

In general, regarding the selection process, you can proceed as outlined below.

The 3 new drivers

(ArcNVMeUserspaceDriver-Dext | ArcMSRUserSpaceDriver-Dext | ArcNVMe-Kext)

This results in the following scheme for the three new drivers:

General usage:

- If the Areca device is a T5U, is connected to a Silicon Mac, and is in NVMe mode or NVMe Mode for Mac, use the ArcNVMeUserSpaceDriver driver.

- If the Areca T5U is in Legacy Mode and connected to a Silicon Mac, the ArcMSRUserSpaceDriver driver must be used.

- If only an Intel Mac is available and there is no Silicon Mac, the ArcNVMe-Kext driver must be used.

---

T5U-xN / T5U-xE (Silicon Mac)

-> ArcNVMEUserSpaceDriver-Dext (requires macOS 15.3)

(However, the Areca must also be in NVMe mode or NVMe Mode for Mac)

See below

---

T5U-4A / T5U-6 / T5U-6M (Silicon Mac)

-> ArcMSRUserSpaceDriver-Dext (requires macOS 15.3 [displayed as 15.0 in the installer])

(Generally, use this when the Areca is in Legacy Mode)

---

T5U-xN / T5U-xE (Intel Mac)

-> *ArcNVMe-1.0.0-kext ([For Intel Macs])

(For older Intel Macs; the Areca must be in NVMe mode or NVMe mode for Mac)

*It can be installed on macOS 12.x, 13.x, 14.x, 15.x, and 26.x

ArcHttp 3.1.0

ArcHttp is only supported in NVMe mode or NVMe mode for Mac on macOS with the latest version 3.1.0.

On a Mac, it’s best to always use NVMe mode for Mac (requires firmware 1.75 or later).

The MRAID package containing the ArcHttp client must now be downloaded and installed separately to install the driver.

The official Areca link for the ArcHttp client is here:

Areca DEXT Driver Installation (Package Installation)

Install the .dmg file located in the .zip archive from the download.

In principle, this is a standard software installation involving mounting the .dmg file on macOS.

Installation steps for the .dmg package with the Arc-NVMe / MSRu user-space driver:

After unpacking the ArcUserSpaceDriver.pkg file

Areca DEXT Driver Installation & Activation (ArcNVMeUserSpaceDriverLoader)

Once the ArcNVMeUserSpaceDriverLoader has been successfully installed from the downloaded .zip and .pkg files, you can now run it.

To do this, go to “Go” > “Applications,” locate the ArcNVMeUserSpaceDriverLoader in the list, and double-click it to run it.

Select the ArcNVMe User Space Driver from Applications and then run it.
