NAS servers — luxurious comfort for your data

Systems built to NASdeluxe quality

NAS servers from NASdeluxe

A product family with many flavors — from stand-alone systems to full metro clusters.

At NASdeluxe, the name says it all: our engineers combine the very best hardware to create first-class network-attached storage.

Product managers start with real-world scenarios and design NAS servers in multiple tiers, each optimized for a specific operating system. Every NASdeluxe appliance relies on industrial-grade x86 hardware, and you can choose from four distinct storage OS options:

  • Windows Server from Microsoft
    NDL-5000R/W
  • JovianDSS from Open-E
    NDL-5000R/Z
  • DSS V7 from Open-E
    NDL-5000R/L
  • Open Source TrueNAS/FreeNAS
    NDL-5000R/F

Each family offers up to ten size classes that differ in drive count, compute power, and interface options. (Matching NASdeluxe JBODs are available for even greater capacity.)

Why this modular approach?
It lets us deliver a coherent concept and build systems that fit seamlessly into your infrastructure—tailored to your needs and budget.

Because each unit is assembled to match its workload, the NASdeluxe range covers a vast use-case spectrum: virtualization and VDI, databases, media streaming, backup, and more.

Your NASdeluxe advantages

  • High data security — redundant design throughout
  • Wide chassis selection — from 8- to 72-bay enclosures
  • Made in Germany — carefully hand-assembled on site

Unified storage in a familiar Microsoft package

NDL-5000R/W NAS systems — the Windows family

NASdeluxe NDL-5000R/W units are dedicated file servers built on Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2019 and tuned by us for maximum reliability. The series is designed specifically for storage-network workloads and priced for cost-efficiency.

Microsoft operating systems are the first choice wherever tight integration with an existing environment is essential for unified administration. A solution built on Windows can be added to a domain immediately and managed with standard tools such as PowerShell. Windows Storage Server 2019 also extends Microsoft’s well-known strengths in virtualization and containers with features like Storage Spaces Direct, Azure Backup, and more.

Key features

  • Ready-to-deploy unified-storage platform with unlimited clients
  • Built-in snapshot capability
  • Up to 64-node clustering
  • Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NAS in a single appliance

Unified storage for SMB and enterprise customers — powered by Open-E

NDL-5000R/Z family NAS systems with JovianDSS

The NASdeluxe 5000 Z Series, built on Open-E’s JovianDSS storage OS, is a software-defined solution refined through years of development. We scale the 5000 Z line from SMB needs all the way to enterprise demands, bundling every feature and component required at the enterprise level.

A major strength of JovianDSS is its On- & Off-Site Data Protection strategy for storage, backup, disaster recovery, and, when needed, archiving. This allows critical corporate data to be restored immediately after a total failure. Consistent snapshots of selected resources and asynchronous replication to other locations are fully supported.

Features

  • On- & Off-Site Data Protection
  • Tiered RAM and SSD caching
  • Data compression and in-line deduplication
  • Thin provisioning plus unlimited snapshots and clones

Ample capacity for big jobs

NDL-5000R/L family NAS systems with DSS V7

NASdeluxe NDL-5000R/L servers deliver unified storage that protects your data either as stand-alone appliances or in a cluster. They present block storage to servers via iSCSI or Fibre Channel, and file storage to clients via NFS and/or CIFS/SMB.

The Open-E DSS V7 storage OS supports iSCSI and NFS clustering with fail-over—even in active-active mode—so the performance of both cluster nodes is fully available.

Features

  • iSCSI/NFS fail-over for high availability with two systems
  • Snapshot functionality
  • Optional active-active iSCSI/NFS clustering
  • Open-E DSS V7 certified for VMware vSphere 6.x and Citrix

FAQ - Storage

Here you will find the most important questions about our storage solutions.

Why is a local (“on-premise”) storage system so important despite the cloud?

For highly critical or latency-sensitive workloads in particular, outsourcing to the cloud alone is often not enough. A local system provides the necessary speed and control: the data remains in your company, which enables fast, synchronous processing and a high standard of security. For example, you can run time-critical applications smoothly and at the same time benefit from the advantages of the cloud for backup or archiving.

Which storage systems are suitable for my company?

We offer solutions from small SMEs to large enterprise operations. Whether you need a compact RAID system for a few terabytes, a high-availability NAS for multiple locations or a JBOD to expand capacity with hundreds of drives, our experts can help you make the right choice and offer a wide range of form factors, protocols and equipment variants.

How does Starline ensure reliable data security?

Our storage systems are state of the art. The stored data is then protected in various ways: this can be RAID technologies, modern file systems such as ZFS, erasure coding, replication, snapshots and/or encryption options. Our industrial grade hardware is assembled in Kirchheim and tested in a burn-in test. This is how we guarantee a long service life for your storage systems.

Can JBODs be added to my existing storage setup?

Absolutely. Many of our systems have a modular design so that you can easily add more drives via JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) expansions. This allows you to flexibly adapt the capacity to growing data volumes at any time without having to purchase a completely new solution.

How does Starline provide support during and after installation?

We support you throughout the entire life cycle of your storage system - from the initial consultation to installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance. Our technicians are always available on weekdays; we also offer a 24x7x4 service on request. We also support you with customs and financing issues and take care of firmware updates and any special requests.

Powerful open-source storage in enterprise trim

NDL-5000R/F family NAS systems with TrueNAS (FreeNAS)

NASdeluxe’s popular F-Series runs the free TrueNAS (formerly FreeNAS) storage OS, bringing a host of advantages. Its platform-agnostic design gives you access via SMB/CIFS, NFS, AFP, FTP, iSCSI, WebDAV, and more.

Even more compelling is the ZFS file system, whose built-in RAID protection eliminates the need for separate RAID layers. ZFS snapshots can be replicated to a remote ZFS target, creating a full duplicate for off-site backup. All ZFS volumes are safeguarded with advanced AES-XTS encryption.

Features

  • Unlimited snapshots
  • Snapshot replication to remote systems
  • Simple VM provisioning
  • Universal backup options
