IBC 2025

The right mix of communication in media relations

RAI Amsterdam ✹ 7.D15 ✹ September 12–15, 2025

Media office needs upgrading, or what a normal day at Starline looks like

At IBC 2025, we will once again be presenting typical constellations that our customers have requested on numerous occasions.

The starting point for this scenario was as follows:

The creative agency “FilmFabrik,” with its affiliated research network “Kern & Kontext” and other photographers, editors, and freelancers, needed a new virtualization platform for its headquarters in Stuttgart because the VMware license it had been using was expiring and the hardware was outdated.

The requirements specification for “FilmFabrik”

The choice fell on the affordable and powerful Proxmox virtualization platform on a Zealbox server with 24 drives and a tape backup solution in another fire compartment.

In addition, a Q24 library from Qualstar via Archiware P5 will provide incremental backups in another part of the building, approximately 50 meters away. Since the library only has SAS ports, the installation team needs the 10GbE-to-SAS bridge XstreamCORE 8100T from ATTO.

The rendering workstation for animated film sequences via Blender requires RAID functions for the fully equipped NVMe server, which are provided by the GRAID controller SupremeRAID SR-1010.

For the editing crew, the creative department needs a 500TB storage backend that connects the four macOS workstations via Thunderbolt.

In addition, the photography team needs stationary and mobile storage devices (Areca ARC-8050T3U Thunderbolt Storage) that they can either take with them on a photo safari or use to transfer and empty camera memory cards. Of course, you will also need the appropriate transport case.

To separate active project and archive data, an Infortrend EonStor GSx will serve as additional object storage, to which two workstations are already connected (with more to follow). External access to the GSx system without VPN will be implemented for freelancers via HTTP/S3 link, so that they can access current data at any time while on the go.
