Open-E integrates its ZFS-based storage system, JovianDSS, into Proxmox VE via a plugin – including its own iSCSI and NFS variants. This allows for the targeted resolution of classic weaknesses in open-source virtualization, such as expensive high-availability clusters and inefficient storage connectivity.
Proxmox VE traditionally requires three nodes of equal performance for true high availability. In today’s climate, this can be costly and is also inefficient. This is exactly where the new Open-E JovianDSS plugin comes in: It provides an external, ZFS-based storage layer that decouples computing power from data storage and, as an added bonus, introduces thin provisioning to Proxmox VE.
