Details on version 7.4 of Archiware P5

A breath of fresh air for P5: What's new in version 7.4!

With the latest update to version 7.4, P5 gets a new look - not visually, but functionally. The new features are clearly aimed at admins and power users who want more efficiency, flexibility and control. The developers have implemented everything as clearly as usual.

Intelligent dashboard - everything at a glance

A brand new dashboard awaits the admin immediately after logging in. It consists of customizable infopanes that can be adjusted as desired. Particularly practical: diagrams show how many backups, syncs or archives have been run in the last 1-4 weeks. An overview graphic indicates in color-coded form whether errors have occurred, for example.

P5 Archive DLM - New name, new possibilities

P5 Data Mover becomes P5 Data Lifecycle Management (DLM). The new name also brings new features, such as volume verification. This makes it possible to specifically check whether archives are still readable - using a checksum compared to the original. The procedure works with tape, cloud or disk. The highlight: if you already had the previous version, you will receive these functions free of charge as an upgrade.

The P5 Archive DLM add-on is available with a 40% discount until the end of 2025!

One click, many securities - this is how a permanent archive check works

Multiple archiving in one go

From version 7.4, one and the same archive can be written to up to three pools simultaneously - whether tape, cloud or a combination of both. This makes redundancy easier than ever. Practical: Each job runs independently, i.e. at a different speed - even if the cloud backs up more slowly than tape.

Storage trinity - archiving to multiple destinations simultaneously

Clone volumes retrospectively - for extra security

An existing LTO volume can now also be cloned retrospectively - perfect for more redundancy and a secure offsite backup. Simply select it in the volume menu and off you go (prerequisite: two LTO drives and an empty volume).

Make two out of one - simply retrofit redundancy

Further innovations

Faster previews - thanks to preview clients

If the creation of archiving previews (thumbnails etc.) takes too long, admins can now define preview clients. These take care of the preview creation in a round-robin system. This is particularly useful, for example, if you are using low-performance NAS systems but also have power clients available.

Fine-tuning for the S3 archive

There are now additional parameters for S3 object archives to prevent the staging area from overflowing. This allows those responsible to control the cloud archive even more finely and prevent too much data from being pushed at the same time.

Small but nice: Further improvements

  • Delete files from the archive index - now also includes complete physical deletion (cloud/disk).
  • LTFS Exchange moved to the P5 menu - less risk of confusion when using tape.
