Die 24/7-Modelle integrieren gleich eine ganze Reihe von Technologien auf einer 9-Scheibenanordnung (2,2 TB pro Scheibe) mit dem CMR-Aufzeichnungsformat. Zudem verfügen die 20 TB-SAS-HDDs über EAMR-Technologie (Energy-Assisted Magnetic Recording), was die Beschreibbarkeit verbessert und die Flächendichte erhöht. Weiterhin haben sie erstmalig einen dreistufigen Aktuator (TSA) eingebaut, der die Genauigkeit der Kopfpositionierung verbessert, was ebenfalls die Dichte steigert aber auch Performance optimiert.
Darüber hinaus setzt Western Digital für die Ultrastar DC HC560 Serie erstmals die innovative OptiNAND-Technologie ein. Diese Neuentwicklung integriert iNAND® UFS EFD-Speicher (Universal Flash Storage Embedded Flash Drive) zur HDD-Technik und umfasst zudem innovative Änderungen am Firmwarealgorithmus und am SoC (System-on-a-Chip).
