New features in P5 version 8.0

Cloud synchronization plans: P5 Cloud Synchronize

P5 Synchronize now enables scheduled replication/migration of data between your own storage hosts and any S3-compatible object storage. This includes cloud services such as AWS, Azure, Google, Wasabi, and many others.

Many possibilities

  • Replicate your local production storage to the cloud as a remote backup copy of your live data, updated daily.
  • Distribute production resources to the cloud so that production teams can access them.
  • Data sovereignty: Bring cloud-hosted content back under your own control.

Project restore

Import project files (EDL, OTIO, FCPXML, ALE) and automatically restore all referenced media from the archive. Ideal for offline/online/proxy workflows and archive restoration.

P5_Version_8_EDLRestore_2

This also works with P5 inventory files, which can be used to import orders.

  • Smart search:
Finds media even if the file paths have changed
  • Batch processing:
Processes hundreds of media references at once
  • Multiple formats:
    Supports industry-standard project file formats
  • Preview and selection:
Select which versions to recover before processing

Parallel preview generation for the archive

Faster media archiving

P5 Version 8.0 offers true parallel preview generation. Whereas preview creation was previously distributed across multiple hosts in a round-robin sequence, tasks are now executed simultaneously. By running FFmpeg and ImageMagick jobs in parallel on all available preview hosts, P5 significantly reduces preview backlogs, speeds up ingest workflows, and improves throughput for large media archives.

P5 Archive DLM: Storage Monitoring

The P5 Archive DLM module has been enhanced with a new query-based storage analysis feature. This feature allows users to create custom queries to determine the storage space consumption of specific projects in the archive.

P5_Version_8_DLM_0
  • Monitor and analyze your P5 archive with powerful statistical queries.
  • Track storage growth and file distribution in your archive.
  • Identify usage patterns and optimize storage allocation.
  • Schedule recurring queries to monitor trends over time.
  • Visualize long-term developments in the dashboard.
  • Flexible queries: Define queries to calculate storage space based on index paths (e.g., /NAS/Project/CustomerABC/Campaign123).
  • Automated calculation: Daily update of storage space statistics.
  • Dashboard integration: Graphical representation of archive growth over time.
  • TSV export: Data export for use in external systems.

P5 Archive: LTO Hardware Encryption

In the next version, P5 Archive will also support the hardware encryption integrated in the LTO drive to protect archived data.

P5_Version_8_LTOEncryption
  • AES-256 hardware encryption directly in the LTO drive
  • No performance loss due to hardware-based encryption
  • Transparent integration into existing P5 Archive workflows
  • Support for tapes in LTFS format
  • Protection against unauthorized access in the event of tape loss or theft

Particularly suitable for media companies with sensitive customer projects or compliance requirements. Encryption is automatic and does not require any changes to existing archiving processes.
