We are also good at DAS
Direct Attached Storage with RAID Security for Enterprises
Direct Attached Storage
You need large and secure storage for your servers or workstations at short notice? We have the right solution ready.
Direct attached storage or server attached storage is the term used by experts to describe storage that is connected directly – i.e. point-to-point – to the computer. A typical example would be the USB hard drive from the private environment.
Professionals, meanwhile, use other interfaces and protocols to provide storage on the fly. Administrators also use Thunderbolt 3, SAS (SCSI), eSATA or proprietary connections via HBA in addition to USB 3.2.
Your advantages with Starline:
- Low installation effort
- Wide range of use
- High data rate
- Low protocol overhead
Do you need a non-binding consultation in advance?
The advantage of DAS structures is that they deliver high data transfer performance with short latency – i.e. low response time. Since the connected systems have exclusive access to the respective drive, all access to the direct attached storage – assuming releases and authorizations – is handled via the connected server or computer.
In addition, DAS is sometimes used as an expansion option for Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) disk arrays where proprietary JBODs are not mandated. This also allows bridging into other protocol worlds such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, Fibre Channel (FICON) or iSCSI.
The options make DAS
Since single hard disks are a knock-out criterion in our line of work, the enterprise sector, the DAS systems we offer can always be protected via RAID levels. Therefore, they can always be redundantly protected by mirroring or distributing parities.
First of all there are our small twin drives which reliably do their job in the external enclosure via RAID1. Our internal RAID enclosure are equipped with up to five data carriers. They are installed in the front drive bays and connected via SAS/SATA.
Netstor’s external hybrid solutions then fall into the next category. These refined enclosures are connected to the host via Thunderbolt or a supplied HBA and offer additional storage space as well as additional PCIe slots, depending on the model.
Direct attached storage in rackmount guise
Our lush range of desktop and rackmount RAID systems from Areca with Thunderbolt interface you can find here. Their storages range from four to 24 bay installations, well into the three-digit terabyte range.
However, our core business includes in particular the large RAID systems with SAS host port from RAIDdeluxe and Infortrend. With you, the very large capacities can be built: Our experts can design systems that reach into the petabyte range. Of course, we also have corresponding JBODs in stock.
By the way: All our DAS systems can be equipped with hard disks or flash memory respectively SSDs.

With Starline you are not on the proverbial hook once you have bought something. Starline is an independent medium-sized company that produces servers and storage systems in Germany. Our suppliers - from cables to screws to SSDs - have to undergo internal benchmarking by our technicians and are only included in the programme when their performance is beyond doubt. We also rely on cross-manufacturer standards and not on isolated solutions. Moreover, all systems assembled by us are put through their paces before they leave our premises. And last but not least: We look after you whenever you wish - for example, by providing free advice before the purchase and free technical support afterwards.
As an independent company, Starline offers servers and storage systems "Made in Germany". All devices are put through their paces before they leave our premises. In addition, we offer free advice before the purchase and free technical support afterwards - even after the warranty has expired.
The answer is clear: both! We sell and install both ready-made components - where we always install new drives, install any firmware updates and customise them - and hand-assembled systems that are completely tailored to your needs. For the latter, we use our own brands NASdeluxe, RAIDdeluxe and Zealbox, for example. All of them consist of high-quality industrial-grade components, right down to the screws.
We offer a wide range of free and bookable services. You can find a detailed overview here.
